So uh I made the excellent and not at all ridiculous and timewasty decision to spend Reading Week watching through every Tim Burton film, in order, and sharing my Thoughts with the Internet. (Because the Internet totally cares.) Anyone who's in TO right now and wants to partake in these shenanigans, let me know?
THIS MOVIE IS INSANE. I am terrified of it, and my tolerance for surreal weird shit is really high. The whole thing is like a fever-dream of some sort. I understand completely why they looked at this and went "Who can we get to write the music for this? Oh, I know, the guy from the Forbidden Zone!" Because this isn't quite Forbidden Zone level insane, but it is pretty damn close, given that it is a movie made by a real studio and not... Rick Elfman.
I do actually really fucking love this score, though, it is one of Danny's most fun. I just. This was the first legit film score he did and it is perfect! ...But this is Tim Burton Week, not Danny Elfman week, so I'll shut up.
Non-music things I like: Mr. T cereal; removing the "Do not remove" tag from mattresses; "I remember...... The Alamo!"; The whole epic chase scene with Santa, Godzilla, and the metal band; the RIDICULOUS META ENDING.
...Large Marge suddenly turning into a Ralph Steadman drawing come to life is still FUCKING TERRIFYING, though, as are all the nightmare sequences.
This isn't really a film so much as it is a collection of things that happen to Pee-Wee Herman. The Tim Burton aesthetic slips in a couple times, there are like, pumpkins and skeletons in weird places. But yeah, I really do think the score is the best thing about it.
I CAN'T FIND ANY GOOD PICTURES TO STICK HERE, SO HAVE A TERRIFYING ONE:

Wow, this one has a lot of people you will see again later. (Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton....) Catherine O'Hara is so good in this. Actually, everybody is good in this. But Michael Keaton is the best. GOD HE IS SO CREEPY :D
The '80s effects are kind awful sometimes. Especially in the sandworm bits. The ghost office or whatever it is is really well done. Also I think it'd be cool to cosplay Blue Receptionist Lady. "Is this what happens when you die?" "This is what happens when you die. And that is what happens when he dies. It's all very personal."
The dinner scene is deliciously sick. Silliest possession ever!(I need to work "Don't mind her, she's just upset 'cos someone dropped a house on her sister." in to conversation.)
OH TINY GOTH WINONA RYDER, YOU ARE MY FAVOURITE. "I am alone I am utterly alone." Although oh my god, the "Beetlejuice is in love with her" subplot is TERRIFYINGLY CREEPY, aughhh. (Her wedding dress always reminds me of this Alexander McQueen design.)
And then it ends with A RANDOM DANCE PARTY! :D I love this movie.

Tiny Goth Winona Ryder FTW
Imagine having made only these two movies, and then being given BATMAN.
Tomorrow, 1989 Batman and Edward Scissorhands!
