gwenfrankenstien: Cartoon version of Mattell's Frankie Stein doll, the teen daughter of Frankenstein's monster (Default)
It's been a hell of a year. Thank you for signing up to bring some much-needed joy into the world!

I get migraines, so please try to avoid strobing/split second cuts. I prefer vids with lyrics that I can understand, so, in English or French, but I'm not at all picky about music genre.

FANDOMS: The Oracle Code (Graphic Novel), Re-Animator (Movies), El caballero del dragón | Star Knight (1985) [SAFETY], The Masque of the Red Death (1964) [SAFETY], Shadow of the Batgirl (Graphic Novel), The Cold | The Game (1984) [SAFETY], Doom Patrol (TV), Jakob's Wife (2021) [SAFETY]

SPECIFIC DETAILS TBA WHEN I DONT HAVE A HEADACHE. Honestly, these sources are all ones I picked because I would love basically any vid you could possibly make.

NO THANKS: Nazis/Nazi imagery, eye gore, sexual assault, lobotomy, parasites. (Where these things occur in canon, mention of them is ok but please don't linger on them.) I have 'institutional horror' requested for Doom Patrol where it's a key part of several characters' backstories, but would like to avoid it in other fandoms.

YES PLEASE: Trans headcanons, Jewish headcanons, blood/gore, knives, hauntings, alive character/ghost character sex/romance, human/monster sex/romance, consensual sexy body horror, D/s vibes, characters wearing their partner's clothes, tragic endings, usually-restrained characters finally going apeshit.

Honestly, these are all fandoms/characters where I would love basically anything, so I have no specific prompts to list.

General: Prefer vids to music with lyrics I can understand (either in English or in French), whatever genre speaks to your muse! I get migraines so please try to avoid split-second cuts/flashes/strobing.

for [personal profile] ilthit , a day late because I am somewhat unstuck from time!

I often see people talk about the difference between the way fanart and fic are treated in fandom in terms like "well, anyone can write fic, not everyone can draw" and I'm always left kind of ???????????? by that because... No! I can't! I can't write fiction to save my life! I have a lot of plot ideas but I have no idea how one takes a story concept out of their brain and makes it into a functioning piece of literature and I am in endless awe of people who can do that thing, and do it well! The craft of fiction is basically wizardry to me!

I'm currently working on my second graduate degree, though, so obviously I can write non-fiction, but more often than not it's like wringing blood out of a stone. I basically have to do all my writing stream-of-consciousness, write the section of the paper I can currently get the ADHD brain to pay attention to, and then organise the resulting paragraphs once I reach the required word count. The end result is usually pretty good, which has led many people over the course of my life to assume that I enjoy writing. But I don't, it's hard and it's stressful and I would much prefer to talk my ideas out loud. I've come to actually love giving presentations, which would greatly shock my child and teen past selves, especially if you got me young enough that I hadn't figured out yet that writing was definitely not my ideal form of expression.

(For the record, I'm pretty sure my ideal form of expression is vids)

Stolen from [personal profile] aurumcalendula because it seems like a good way to ease myself into actually using dreamwidth to communicate with humans.

Pick a date in January and give me something to talk about. TV, books, movies, music, poetry, fandom, writing, food, travel, fictional characters (&/or pairings) and all of their feelings, whatever.

You don't have to be following me or ever have commented to request a topic. If you're doing the meme, I'll leave topics for you, too! Feel free to link me at any time if you want one.

General notes: I prefer music with lyrics, in English or French, but other than that I'm okay with any genre/era of music that speaks to you! I have photosensitive migraines so please try to avoid split-second cuts/strobe effects.

Fire And Hemlock/Time of the Ghost: Interested in any attempt to visualise either or both of these, particularly with a focus on the 'recovered memories' aspect of both books

Death Race 2050: I wholeheartedly and non-ironically love this film. I'd be happy with pretty much anything, although I would prefer not to receive a vid focused primarily on Jed or Tammy.

House On Haunted Hill: This film's writing is.... fairly bananas, but the acting and cinematography save it/make it fun vid fodder! I'd love a focus on the Lorens and/or Eleanor, but anything at all will be gratefully appreciated!

It Came From Beneath The Sea: Professor Joyce is maybe the best character in any 50s monster movie? Anything about her, or about her relationship with Pete and Dr. Carter (ot3!!!) would be lovely.

Rock'N'Roll High School: Riff/Kate or gen wacky hijinks with minimal Tom/Kate, please! This movie is so much fun to vid, I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I have.

Norma Rae: I'd be equally delighted by a serious take on Norma's journey into activism or a vid wallowing in Norma and Reuben's unresolved romantic tension (or both!)

I, Tonya: As a longtime Tonya Harding apologist, I felt like this film was made for me specifically. I'd love anything you did with this, especially a focus on Margot Robbie and Alison Janney's incredible performances.

Sorry about the delay, if you've already started working on something that isn't inspired by these prompts I'm sure I will still love it! These are 100% optional, I'm just spitballing ideas.

Star Trek: Disco:

- any art of the Mirror uniforms
- any art of Tilly's gorgeous curls
- the Emperor trying to use her knowledge of mirror!Tilly to seduce prime!Tilly
- Shenzhou-era Michael learning to process her emotions with Philippa's help
- more of Michael and the Emperor's twisty cat and mouse game, with or without a sexual/romantic element

BoP:

- something about the duality of Helena's civilian/vigilante identities
- teamwork/casefic
- the one where Dinah picked up a cute redhead at a bar once and didn't realise til much later that that was Oracle
- fluffy Babs/Dinah romance/domesticity
- anything that plays up the D/s voyeur/exhibitionist take on the early Babs/Dinah dynamic
- any art that emphasises these women's muscle definition
- nice things happening to Charlie

Batgirls:

- Steph and Cass sparring
- Steph and Cass sparring and then making out
- Oracle as mentor/mother figure to the younger Batgirls
- casefic where their different strengths are all useful
- anything set in the unfortunately brief era where Steph is Robin to Cass' Batgirl
- anything set in the era where Steph appears to Cass as a ghost/guardian spirit

Crimson Peak:

- imo the real hero of this film is the design; any art that highlights the intricacy of the costuming would be lovely
- post-film Edith/ghost!Lucille femslash
- maybe something aping the style of art from the period the film is set?

Space Battle Lunchtime:

- the cover for any character's post-show cookbook
- Peony and Neptunia sharing food from their home cultures with each other
- Peony and Neptunia exploring the galaxy together
- any character/s in their planet's formalwear
- porn where Neptunia has very alien genitalia and Peony is super into it

- anything Carmela POV
- art of Dairine in her very fancy green dress
- anything about Carmela's space piracy
- any combination of human characters celebrating an extraterrestrial holiday with their alien friends
- Callahan sisters pre-wizardry

Original Works

- please no 'she bullies you because she secretly loves you' stuff with the jock/nerd & cheerleader/nerd prompts
- instead, things where one of those characters is really supportive of her girlfriend's interests even though she doesn't understand them!
- park ranger accidentally abducted by fae
- dryad awakens after centuries of sleep & park ranger helps her adjust to modernity
- young idealistic heroine teaches bitter retired former heroine that there's still good in the world

Rock'n'Roll Highschool

- literally anything
- what were these girls like as kids?
- what does their future look like?
- what's Angel's whole deal??
- just play in this world with me

Thor

- Tessa Thompson is gorgeous and that's what I'm here for
- Val doing some sexually-charged sparring with any of the other characters
- honestly any Val/ladies content at any rating
- Jane and Darcy are both played by Jewish actresses; I'd love to see fic or art that focused on their faith/culture/practice

Dirty Computer

- see above re: my giant crush on Tessa Thompson
- honestly I just want to know more about this world!
- I'd also love to see artist's interpretations of pretty much any of the outfits Zen and Jane wear
- basically anything goes here!

I Had A King [Labyrinth] from Gwen Frankenstein on Vimeo.

Vid: I Had A King
Music: Joni Mitchell
Fandom: Labyrinth
Ship: Jareth/Sarah, Sarah/self-empowerment
Summary: You have no power over me. Made for [personal profile] sol_se

I had been thinking a lot about this one tumblr post that's like... making fun of people for saying 'oh if this movie came out today people would romanticise Jareth' because according to the tumblr post that's the whole point of his character and... wow do I ever disagree! I too used to make 'Sarah's an idiot for giving up on the chance to have David Bowie be in love with you' jokes when I was Sarah's age and I'm quietly horrified by that now. He's a powerful, predatory adult and Sarah is an incredible heroine for being able to see through his manipulation by the end. I knew I wanted a song with a whimsical hippie feel but with that undercurrent of strength and bitterness, so early Joni seemed the obvious place to go.

I've been wanting to vid Ragnarok from the minute I saw it, but hadn't found the right song. Obviously the only person with the correct amount of bombast was Freddie Mercury!

Undead [Nosferatu] from Gwen Frankenstein on Vimeo.

Vid: Undead
Music: Bela Lugosi's Dead, Nouvelle Vague
Fandom: Nosferatu
Ships: Ellen/Hutter, Ellen/Orlok
Summary: F. W. Murnau's dead. For [personal profile] absolutedestiny

In undergrad I took a course on vampire movies, for which I wrote a paper on the ways the film shows Ellen and Orlok's mirroring/psychic connection. I always say that my approach to vidding is the same as my approach to writing essays, but that's never been so literally true before!
