I am SO TIRED.

Loads of fun! Although next year/Hallowe'en I am going to make green armbands and only paint my face green, because it got all over the white shirt and ruined the effect.

I even managed to stay within my budget, except for Sunday when I went a bit over. Better than previous years, when I've spent my lunch money on things and came home starving...

Today I decided to avoid the crowds & commercialisation of Pride Toronto and bought books instead!

- The Monsters: Mary Shelley and the Curse of Frankenstein (about Mary, and her life, and also about Percy and Byron and Claire and Polidori and all the surrounding ~drama~, and about Frankenstein and The Vampyre.)
- The Vampyre: The Secret History of Lord Byron (in which Polidori was not making things up and Byron actually is basically Lord Ruthven)
- So Shelly (a high school AU where Keats and Byron bond after the tragic and untimely death of their mutual friend girl!Percy)
- The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein (narrated by Victor but also featuring all the various associated real-life literary figures, because that is what Peter Ackroyd does.)

It is distinctly possible that there is a Theme here.

(I also bought another monster doll, Dead Tired Draculaura. But to be honest, right now I'm more excited about the books.)

Half-price day at Goodwill, which means I have bought a whole bunch of books for less than two dollars each:

* The first three Stevie Diamond Mysteries (which I already own, but I’m thinking of giving them to someone of the right age)
* Pippi (Longstocking) Goes On Board
* Two classic Korman books in hardcover (The Twinkie Squad and Son of Interflux)
* Villains By Necessity in hardcover (I fucking love this book, expect a post about it when I finish rereading)

And dad came home with two more DVD sets, this time of 20 movies each (for six dollars!)
cut because it is a long list, also because nobody cares )

So this morning my mom woke me up early because Something Very Exciting had come in the mail!
Sassy Monster Doll )

And so there’s a DVD store near where my dad works, right? And I asked him if next time he was there he could pick me up the original Little Shop of Horrors if he found it for ten dollars or less.

Well, he did way better than that. He came home tonight with a couple box sets.
Seriously rather a lot of vintage horror )
Fuck yes, today is awesome.

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] colonize had the BEST ADVENTURE. My mom works at a daycare, so she has a membership at a local toystore, where we've been saving up points for basically the last twenty years. We cashed those points in for $75 in store credit, which for some reason you had to spend all in one go. .....So I now have $75 worth of Playmobil that I hadn't had before! Including Evil Mermaid Queen (who is for some reason making the 4chan logo face) and her Purple Barbarian Soldiers (seriously they were exactly the same colour as the Queen, it was sort of perfect). They were engaged in a bitter feud with King Culturally-Confused his champion, Sir Glowing Chainsaw-Gun-Lance, and their allies, Barbarians who carry enough weapons for their wolves to be armed too.

...I FUCKING LOVE PLAYMOBIL, THE END. (There is a point to buying these, I promise, there are Things that will come of it at some point. Possiblymaybe.)

ALSO! Yesterday NEW BIRDS OF PREY CAME OUT, have I mentioned that they are my FAVOURITE? I just. HOW SO AWESOME? Here, I'll just link to the last time I gushed about BoP. I'm tempted to do a page-by-page review at some point, inspired by [personal profile] nevermore999's Super Mega Batgirl Reviews.

But I can't do that now, or this weekend. Because! This weekend! My mom and [livejournal.com profile] lufwood_emilius and I are going to the STEAMPUNK WORLD FAIR. WE LEAVE TOMORROW MORNING. THIS IS GONNA BE SO AWESOME :D. Expect pictures!

Oh man, I acquired so much neat stuff today, Internets!

- My mom found me a Playmobil figure wearing a red military jacket that looks scarily familiar. I am going to make him a tiny scarf & interesting glasses, it'll be great!

- I found a tank top with a glittery, rhinestoned octopus on. It's like it was made just for me! (A squid would have been better, obviously, but I do love all cephalopods.)

- The H&M lightweight military jacket that I've been in love with but too cheap for finally got put on clearance! (I got it in beige, because I have way too many black jackets/coats as-is)

- I found the JLU action figure three-pack with Green Lantern and Fire & Ice. I have all four human Lanterns! I have Bea & Tora! It was being cleared for eight bucks!

- Aaaaand I bought A Wizard of Mars! I have been waiting five years for this book. I fully recognise that I am abusing the italics tags here but I don't even care. I want to hide myself away in my room for a few hours 'til I finish it, but I promised myself I would do the what-I-read-in-March post first.

So. Books!
Approx. a billionty Korman books )
...So yeah, I've basically come to terms with the fact that this is my fandom now. Obscure, out-of-print Canadian kids' books from the '80s. I have e-books that fell off the back of a truck, if anyone wants them? :D?
Indigara, Tanith Lee )
Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov )
Brave New World, Aldous Huxley )
GREAT. DONE. NEW DIANE DUANE BOOK TIME NOW.

For my own reference, behind the cut is a collection of Steam-y stuff that I am considering buying and/or wishing I could afford. From Etsy and Clockwork Couture, images are also links.
